What Is Tennis Elbow?

Tennis elbow is a painful condition within the elbow caused from overusing the extensor muscles of the forearm (the muscles pull the hand backwards) causing the tendons to become inflamed or degenerate. It happens when you’re repeatedly perform the same movements over and over causing irritation at the tendon insertion, which leads to tenderness and pain on the outer part of the elbow. Not allowing the arm to rest, using incorrect or damaged equipment, heavy lifting and poor technique are also causes of tennis elbow.

What Are the Symptoms?

Symptoms usually develop gradually over a period of time. The main symptom is pain and tenderness on the outside of the elbow when using your hand, for example, gripping or lifting. The pain may ease off after activity but will usually return if aggravating movements are performed.
